WP's Family Fiesta - planning

This month is going to be an exciting one as WP will be organizing its second family fiesta! Just to recall briefly, last year's family fiesta was a success and we managed to receive positive feedbacks to those who were involved in the fiesta. While last year's theme for the family fiesta is cultures, this year's theme is going to be somewhat related to the curriculum's theme on nature - Going Green!

*more photos and albums of last year's family fiesta can be found in the school.

A quick description, WP's family fiesta is an event that involves all families and children of WP in raising funds for community foundations and beneficiaries that cater to those who are in need such as children with special needs, low-income families and so on. In the fiesta, teachers, families and children will work together in planning what they could do in helping those people, with relations to the theme. The community and/or people not from WP are also welcomed to attend the event.

Currently, the staff of WP is in their midst of preparation and once again, we would like to invite you parents or caregivers of children in WP to share any plans and ideas that they have! We have received wonderful responses about the revision of menu so far and we very much appreciate them. Also, after a couple of discussions, responses that WP feels are good and feasible will be displayed in the blog so that everyone will have a chance to see and be involved during the planning rocess. Similar as before, drop by WP, give a call or send us an email if you have something to say.

Thank you!

Regards,
WP

Revision of Menu in WP

At WP, we are very much concern of the children's health especially the food that they eat. For almost 2 years, WP has served children with sumptuous yet healthy meals in order for them to get sufficient nutrients and vitamins needed throughout their stay in the school. Nonetheless, beginning from next month, a new set of menu will be executed throughout the whole school. Details of the menu will be distributed to the children and parents as soon as we have confirmed the menu with the Ministry of Health for Young Children.

As we are still in the process of revising the menu, we certainly appreciate and welcome any suggestions or feedbacks that we can incorporate in our planning. You can drop by WP at anytime with your ideas, post a note in the chatbox on the right, send us an email, or even give us a call (contact details are at the bottom of the page). We really hope we are able to take this opportunity to collaborate with you in helping to provide children in WP with high-quality care and service. Thank you very much and we look forward to your responses!

Warm regards,
WP

Field Trip to the Muddy River

Today was an exciting experience for our fellow kindergartners as they went on a field trip to Boston's very own Muddy River. Don't be fooled by it's name but Muddy River is one of the well-known natural sites that offers a wide range of trees, plants and living creatures. The field trip was intended for the children to explore more on this month's curriculum theme - nature. A total of 24 children and 4 adults (2 teachers and 2 parents) went to the Muddy River in hopes of obtaining knowledge and a better understanding about the natural world.

Bringing the children outdoors has its benefits and WP believes that outdoors is a wonderful place for both children and adults. Outdoors such as parks, beaches, gardens and even the Muddy River offers beautiful sceneries and countless opportunities for children and adults to learn and discover new things that they have never knew before! On top of that, outdoors is also a great place for children and adults to spend quality time together or even just to hang around for a breathe of fresh air.

Speaking of outdoors, it certainly has a lot of benefits for the young ones. Firstly, children are undeniably curious about the world outside and by bringing them outdoors, we are somehow encouraging and answering their curiosity. Secondly, as they learn more about nature, we are fostering a sense of stewardship in them, which is an attitude or a strong responsibility of taking care of the earth. For WP, we feel that this is definitely useful as it encourages children to appreciate mother earth, as well as its resources, better.

Next, outdoors always involves the children to move around, thus, bringing them out will help to develop on their physical activity as well as body movement skills. In addition, according to research, outdoor play is known to increase the children's metabolic rates, which means that they are likely to have a better digestive system and an increase in the intake of food. This is especially helpful since children are still growing and having them can lead to a healthy growth.

Finally, last but not least, bringing the children outdoors is beneficial as it can help to reduce signs of challenging behaviors or any behavioral problems that you may face. As outdoors provide children with interesting and new things for them to observe and learn with, they will be more positively engaged and from there, perform better in school.

So what are you waiting for? Let's all go out!

Regards,
WP
